Owl Peak Labs Joins CVILLEBIOHUB

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Charlottesville, VA — 08/03/2020 — Owl Peak Labs, a precision oncology company that develops at-home screening technology to detect colorectal cancer, has joined CvilleBioHub, an industry-led nonprofit organization providing engagement, resourcing and advocacy to strengthen the Charlottesville-area biotechnology Hub comprising more than 65 companies.

“CvilleBioHub is at the forefront of Charlottesville’s fast-growing biotech industry,” said Tim Harvey, Co-CEO of Owl Peak Labs. “As a Charlottesville-based company, working with CvilleBioHub and the community is an exciting opportunity to support our growth and next level of innovation.”

CvilleBioHub provides local biotech companies with access to capital, infrastructure, expertise, strategic partnerships, and a skilled talent pool. The biotech industry contributes nearly $1.2 billion to the local economy.

The partnership comes at a critical time amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “Before the pandemic, approximately 69 percent of at-risk individuals were screened for colorectal cancer, but that number has fallen dramatically due to COVID-19, further exposing the inadequacies and disparities of current screening methods,” said Dr. Taison Bell, Co-CEO and CMO of Owl Peak Labs. “Our mission to develop at-home colorectal cancer screening products that are easy to use, accurate, and effective is more important now than ever to reverse this negative trend.”

As a result of delayed cancer screening and treatment, the National Cancer Institute has warned that over the next decade there could be 10,000 more deaths from colorectal and breast cancer.

Owl Peak Labs is making strides despite the negative impact of COVID-19 on the biotech industry and the broader economy. Digital health and remote care are more important now than ever and Owl Peak Labs is in a strong position to achieve its mission of revolutionizing diagnostic care for millions of patients around the world.
